Quintana Roo is one of 31 states, with Mexico City, comprising 32 Mexican Federal Entities. It is divided into 11 municipalities and its capital city is Chetumal.

Quintana Roo is located on the east side of the Yucatán Peninsula and is bordered by the states of Campeche to the west and Yucatán to the northwest, and by the Orange Walk and Corozal counties of Belize, along with an offshore border with Belize County to the south. As the easternmost state of Mexico, Quintana Roo is bordered to the east by the Caribbean Sea and to the north by the Gulf of Mexico. The state previously covered 44,705 square kilometers (17,261 sq mi) and shared a small border with Guatemala in the southwestern part of the state.

The best time of year to visit Quintana Roo for general outdoor activities is from mid-November to mid-March, with peak times being during the last week of January. Visitor can travel from neighboring provinces and cities by many different means such as plane, bus, tram, boat...
